RDS is a bit unlike most other waste stream removal services that start recycling as an afterthought of trash hauling. Instead, we are and have always been primarily a recycling company — and its founder a fourth generation recycler. You will find that all of our people are tied to the great outdoors for which recycling activities play such a vital part in conserving.
Joe Benedetto, President
"Some RDS employees jokingly say that the trash industry is a 'life sentence.' It sure does tend to get into our blood. I have personally been in it so long that recycling and waste stream management has gone deep enough that it is probably part of my DNA."
Joe is part of the fourth-generation of family members to be involved in the recycling industry. He has worked either in or around recycling facilities all of his life. Early recycling experience included everything from general labor to equipment operation, to the management of this company today
Joe has managed fiber assets valued at over $25 million per year. It included all recycled fiber strategies for the East Coast of the US and all of Canada. In November 1998 Joe decided to return to the family recycling business which had experienced significant growth.
When not working on innovations for RDS, Joe enjoys chasing his three boys around the sports activities of football, wrestling, lacrosse, and baseball. When it comes to quiet time, Joe carves wooden bird decoys — or as he says "anything that gets me on my tractor."

Debbie Devine, Business Development Manager
Debbie is a fine example of an RDS "career recycling professional", having been in the industry since 1988. Her principle focus has been in the arena of municipal and regional recycling services and was instrumental in implementing the single stream automated curbside recycling service in the city of Virginia Beach in 1997. After 12 years there, she accepted the position of Director of Recycling with the Southeastern Public Service Authority (SPSA).
During her career, Debbie has served on numerous industry boards and chair positions and has twice been named Recycler of the Year by the Virginia Recycling Association.
Debbie's major interests are travel and the outdoors.

Mike Felker, Virginia Area Manager
Mike has successfully managed multiple recycling facilities and forged strong relationships with national brokerage suppliers of recycled materials. He has worked in both the New York and Florida markets. In Florida, he recently helped bring in the Recycling Plant of the Year award along with the prominent Most Improved Safety award. Mike has forged productive relationships with numerous waste haulers as well as worked on new sorting systems to handle fiber-rich materials. Mike's extensive experience in the recycling industry makes him a valuable asset to RDS and Portsmouth.
When he is not helping run the Roanoke facility, he loves to read and dabble in real estate.
